DCAO addressing stakeholders during an inception meeting with Well Roots Foundation.

Officials from the Ministry of Water and Environment held a stakeholders engagement meeting at the District Headquarters.

 

MoWE received funding from UK export finance and constructed 3 solar powered water supply irrigation system at Namulanda in kayunga Subcounty Nsiima kibati in Nazigo Subcounty and Misanga B in Bbaale Subcounty with Nexus green contracted to provide agronomy services to farmers.

 

The engagement was focused to evaluate the impact of the projects to farmers , identify challenges and provide solutions 

 

The District Chairperson advised the team to always invest these projects on public land to avoid land wrangles which are lagging the projects behind.

 

The team further proceeded to Namulanda for a field site visit where

Farmers highlighted challenges with land wrangles, pests and diseases, capital, lack of market for the products among others. 

 

The Ministry pledged their commitment and support to the farmers and provided an agronomist who will closely work with extension workers in training farmers such that they do away with subsistence farming and adopt commercial farming.
